First opened in 1975, The Museum of Southern History has long been the premier museum on the War Between The States in Northeast Florida. Our exhibits discuss Florida from the earliest talk of secession through the Reconstruction Years and beyond.
Although our museum is focused upon the preservation and telling of the story of Florida's role in the War Between The States, we are also dedicated to the preservation and telling of all of Florida's unique and rich history. In 1993, our present facility was opened, located at 4304 Herschel St. in Jacksonville, FL. At this facility we have exhibits dedicated to all parts of Florida's history from the MesoAmerican Era of the American Indians through the Modern Era. In addition, we have a large library collection at our facility that is full of valuable historical and genealogical information from all of Florida's history. We are staffed by a cadre of knowledgeable volunteers who are passionate about Florida's history not just during the American Civil War, but through all eras. This gives our patrons a unique experience and resource to utilize, allowing them to learn a great deal about the unique, entire and largely untold story of Florida's historic past.
